This month we welcome Captain Mark Wilkinson to the Empire Marina Bobbin Head team. Mark joins us as our new General Manager – Operations, and will be working closely with Director, John Lawler to meet all your boat needs.

Mark is originally from Western Australia where he commenced his maritime career working seasonally between professional fishing and scuba diving instructor/ dive boat skipper.

Mark then travelled to Europe where he became the Captain for a high profile family in Monaco. While he was Captain he also managed the construction of four Italian-built superyachts over a 12 year period – from high speed water jet driven yachts to M/Y Illusion, a custom built, displacement 46mtr/500grt Benetti.

As a long standing Monaco Captain he became a Monaco resident himself and board member of the Captain’s Association of the Monaco Yacht Club.

He has cruised extensively throughout the Mediterranean from Spain, France, Italy, Croatia and Greece to Turkey, Lebanon and North Africa.

His qualifications include Master Class V, UK Master Class IV 3000 tonnes, SSI Dive Master and Marine Engine Driver Grade II.

Mark has recently returned to Australia – keeping his passion for the ocean by rekindling his hobbies of scuba diving and recreational fishing.

With his extensive shipyard, cruising, boat handling experience and commitment to ensuring all boat owners derive maximum pleasure and safety from their investment, Mark will undoubtedly make a valuable contribution our the team at Empire Marin Bobbin Head.

Please join us in welcoming him on-board.

Empire Marina Bobbin Head are pleased to announce that we now offer a full recycling facility for all waste. In response to feedback from our recent Customer Service Survey, we have found a new supplier who is able to offer us this service.

When you next visit our Garage Bay, you will notice some very positive changes. There are now four 240 litre Bottle and Can Recycling bins with yellow lids. These are for all glass bottles and jars, aluminium and steel cans, and all plastic bottles and containers. There are two white 1.5 cubic meter Cardboard and Paper Recycling bins. Please flatten all cardboard boxes before depositing them in these bins. There are also seven maroon General Garbage bins. These are for all other waste that cannot be placed in the either Paper & Cardboard, or Bottle & Can recycling bins provided.

The General garbage, and Bottle and Can Recycling bins are emptied twice a week on Sunday and Thursday nights, and the Paper and Cardboard Recycling bins are emptied on Tuesday nights.

Please do not use the 66p litre red lid bins. These are reserved for use by our tradespeople on the hardstand only.

All bins are clearly marked, and we have had signs made up to direct you to the appropriate bin.

We appreciate your co-operation, and look forward to working together to create an even more environmentally-friendly marina.

Michelle towing boat

Our very efficient Office Manager, Michelle Nicholls has added NSW Boat Driver’s License to her list of credentials!

One fine Sunday a few months back, Michelle and her son Alex set off to the Marine Rescue base in Brooklyn, to do her theory test to become an officially licenced Boat Driver in NSW. After completing the course, she took a short test and passed with flying colours. Michelle chose to do her course through these guys because the money goes to Marine Rescue, a voluntary service (and as a charity it is also tax deductable).

After the theory component of the qualification, she was required to do 5 lessons on the water with a person already holding their Boat Driver’s licence.

The following Monday Michelle arrived back at work, and somehow managed to convince Director John Lawler and Dock Master Robert Furniss, to let her loose in the marina. You may have seen her out there practicing her skills towing a boat or two.

After her lessons with these two experts, she headed down to the Roads and Maritime Office, showed her signed documentation, paid her dues and proudly walked out with her NSW Boat Drivers Licence.

Well done Michelle!
